HOD, TDDBRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Teacher Development Division (TDD) is the professional training arm of the FCT Education Resource Centre (FCT-ERC). The division is mandated to professionally build the capacity of teachers in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
TDD delivers professional development programmes designed to enhance teachers’ knowledge, skills, competences and expertise in teaching. These programmes are implemented through a variety of approaches, including ongoing classes, periodic trainings, seminars and/or workshops, in-class observations, and collaborative learning sessions/support groups.
Units within the Teacher Development Division (TDD) include:
This unit organizes and conducts training and workshops aimed at enhancing the performance of FCTA teachers across key subjects and skill areas, including:
- Mathematics and Sciences
- English Language and Arts
- Early Childcare and Development
- Entrepreneurship Education
- Technical Crafts and others
This unit is responsible for:
- Conducting research into skills, techniques, and core curriculum contents
- Sourcing for necessary online and offline training opportunities to enhance FCTA teachers’ professional growth and development
- Publicizing teacher development research findings, programmes, and events.
This unit is responsible for:
- Collaborating with donor agencies such as the British Council, UNESCO, Education Trust Fund (ETF), and others to provide technical expertise for teachers’ capacity building.
- Liaising with stakeholders in education, including NERDC, TRCN,National Mathematical Centre, Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and related agencies to source for relevant policy information for FCTA teachers.
This unit focuses on:
- Collaborating with private schools (on request) to provide teacher training on specific professional issues
- Guiding and overseeing interested private schools to ensure compliance with the stipulated ethics and curriculum.
This Unit promotes professionalism and teachers’ welfare through:
- Promoting teaching ethics
- Conducting Needs assessments for all FCTA school teachers.
The responsibilities of this unit include
- Organizing and conducting follow-up visits to FCTA schools to monitor and mentor teachers on the effective implementation of workshop outcomes
- Organizing and conducting orientations for newly employed FCTA teachers
- Liaising with the Department of Quality Assurance (DQA) to train deficient teachers in identified areas
- Organizing Bi-weekly internal seminars and workshops for TDD staff
- Monitoring the implementation of Professional Learning Community (PLC) in FCTA schools.
This unit is responsible for:
- Designing, developing, and producing educational resource materials for commercial distribution to public and private schools in FCTA
- Providing support services for ERC programmes, viz:
- Venue Decoration
- Public Address Systems
- Multimedia Projectors
- Photography
- Video Coverages, etc.
- Providing spiral binding, lamination, photocopying, and other related services to ERC staff and others
